Song So-hee’s Career
Song Sohee started her career really early, she was just 5 years old when she was on the stage for the first time. She got nationwide popularity when she won the grand prize in the KBS National Singing Contest with the performance of “Changbu Taryeong” (“창부타령”). She won the grand prize in the contest and became the youngest grand prize winner in the 29 years of the contest’s history. Having been impressed by So-hee’s talent, Master Lee volunteered to provide training for her on a regular basis. The Minyo (Korean folk song) literally means the song of folklore. Therefore, Minyo is the traditional music sung most frequently by Koreans. Minyo is broadly classified into three types according to region, namely, Gyeonggi, Namdo, and Seodo Minyo. Gyeonggi Minyo is traditionally popular in the central area around Seoul. Since 2008, she has been invited to perform at various events, both at home and abroad. Her main domestic events are Celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Korea in 2008, Baekje International Cultural Festival in 2010, Jeonju International Sori Festival in 2010, and Public Broadcasters International Seoul Meeting in 2011, allowing people around the world to watch her performances. Many of them were stunned by her performances and fell in love with her and minyo. Such international recognition provided her with opportunities to perform abroad. Since 2009, she has been invited to perform at official events and a variety of cultural exchange events in various countries including Japan, Russia, and the United States. Some of those are the Korea-Japan Culture Exchange in 2009, the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Russia in 2010, the Korean Festival in 2011, and the Opening events of Korean Cultural Center India in 2012. As discovered quickly and she is often called the gem of Korea. After her winning at the contest and becoming nationwide famous, she has been appearing in many events, shows, etc.

On February 17th, legal representatives of D&i Entertainment stated, “Since July of 2013, D&i Entertainment’s CEO Choi Yong Soo signed Song So Hee under an exclusive contract with the agency and has been managing her ever since. However, the agency has not been able to receive their share of revenue that Song So Hee gained through her promotional activities and decided to file a lawsuit in regards to revenue distribution.” CEO Choi Yong Soo said, “Song So Hee has deposited the adjusted amount twice, but didn’t distribute [the revenue] properly. We’ve gone through various attempts such as sending certification of contents to settle the situation. However, Song So Hee has not responded [to our attempts] and therefore, we’ve decided to file a lawsuit.”
